Set up English subtitles in three steps
- Install France TV Dual Subtitles from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open a France TV video and enable the available French captions.
- Open the extension sidebar and select English as the translation language.
- Keep both French and English subtitle lines visible while the video plays.
Why keep the French subtitle visible?
English-only subtitles can help you follow the story, but they hide the connection between the sound and the original French words. Bilingual subtitles let you compare both lines without pausing the video.
This makes authentic French news, documentaries, series, and other programs easier to use for listening practice and vocabulary building.
What works on France TV
On supported on-demand videos, the extension reads the available subtitle track and displays synchronized bilingual captions. On France TV live pages, it can fall back to translating captions exposed by the player when a downloadable subtitle track is not available.
Subtitle availability is controlled by the video and France TV player. If a program has no French captions, the extension has no source text to translate.
If subtitles do not appear
- Confirm that French captions are enabled in the France TV player.
- Refresh the video page after installing or updating the extension.
- Check that Display Translation Subtitle is enabled in the sidebar.
- Try another captioned France TV program to separate a video-specific issue from an extension issue.
